William Turner was a shy loner and oddly eccentric. As an enormously productive artist, he quickly rose to become of the most successful landscape and maritime artists in England, although his late works, however, provoked and polarized the art world of his time. Despite his fame being limited to Great Britain during his own lifetime, he is today internationally regarded as an outstanding and exceptional talent, between romanticism and impressionism.
Turner Work does not really fit into the common art historical categories, but has proven to be something independent and unmistakable.
