Degas

art album

Edgar Degas played a special role in the circle of French Impressionists, in fact he participated in almost all the exhibitions of his Impressionist colleagues between 1874 and 1886, although he actually represented a completely different conception of painting. Reflections from solid and water surfaces, daytime moods or the seasonal weather- all this failed to interest him. He rejected outdoor painting,  with the landscape- such a central theme of Impressionist painting- hardly appearing  in his work. Degas focused instead, above all, upon the person: the individual’s existence and chequered fate, role-playing demanded by society.
